The MDP recognises the importance of helping its staff achieve a balance between work requirements and their home life.
Our normal working week is 40 hours (averaged), served on tours of duty, which are not necessarily standard shifts but which cover operational requirements. There may also be occasions when you are required to work overtime to cover operational commitments. Overtime is payable to ranks up to and including that of sergeant.
Annual leave varies between 22-30 days, according to length of service, and this is in addition to 8 days' Public Holiday. If you are required to be on duty on a Public Holiday you will be compensated.
The variety of jobs that you do is massive.
Officers with particular leave requirements for observing religious holidays appropriate to their faith will have their applications treated sympathetically.
Where an officer qualifies for it, we also make provision for maternity and paternity leave.
Your appointment to the MDP is pensionable from the outset and you will be able to choose between two Civil Service pension schemes, giving you the flexibility to select the one that suits you best:
You do not have to join the Civil Service pension arrangements and may choose instead to opt out and be covered by a personal pension or the State Second Pension Scheme.
